How To Get There
Apollo Bay is 195 kms south west of Melbourne (approx. 3 hours driving) and 43 kms south west of Lorne (approx. 38 minutes driving). Although there is a light airfield just out of Apollo Bay for scenic flights the nearest commercial airport is Avalon (for certain Jetstar flights) and Melbourne’s main airport Tullamarine.
Apollo Bay is also serviced by rail (V/Line) from Melbourne's Southern Cross station (formerly known as Spencer Street Station) to Geelong, then a connecting bus to Apollo Bay. Travel time is an hour to Geelong by train and 2.5 hours on the bus from Geelong.
Most people tour The Great Ocean Road by car. If travelling from Melbourne take the freeway to Geelong then the Great Ocean Road (B100) for the scenic drive to Apollo Bay or for the direct route the Princess Highway to Winchelsea then turn off to Forrest.
An attractive alternative is to drive to Sorrento and take the ferry across to Queenscliff. For timetables, costs and other details of the ferry crossing, have a look at the Queenscliff-Sorrento Car & Passenger Ferry Service website.
For direct driving instructions why not use the Google Route Planner. Once you have selected your accommodation scroll down to the bottom of the page for the property and you will see a Google map. At the bottom enter your starting destination. A Print button at the top of the map will print off just the ‘directions’.
